I posted last night about having writers and editors block about a couple of things, including the dissertation. For the side Idol project, I decided to pull out my blank article outline in Word and start thinking about it from that perspective. It worked. An empty outline that needed defining allowed me to really think… Continue reading “Twang!”

Writing Blocks
I have been having some trouble writing lately. I've finally gotten to this point where I realized what my work is all about, across the seemingly different projects. But when I sit down to actually work on something, like my dissertation, I just draw a blank. Part of it was worrying about repeating myself. That… Continue reading Writing Blocks
Student Feedback and Revisions
I'm starting to come to the end of my first semester as adjunct faculty teaching 3 very different courses. One is very similar, at least in title, to the last course I taught as a graduate student. The similarities in title made me excited to teach a class about cultural diversity again. Today I had… Continue reading Student Feedback and Revisions
Circling Back to the X-Men
As usual, I went to DragonCon this year. I'm just starting to get my brain back in working order. I think a solid night's sleep will do the trick. But, it has helped me focus when it comes to my research. I went to a decent amount of the C+PAC panels this year and the… Continue reading Circling Back to the X-Men
Talking about representation!
A couple of weeks ago, my boss said he had passed my info on to someone who was putting together a panel for Marcon (Multiple Alternative Realities Convention) about representation of disability in the media. They needed someone else to be on the panel and immediately thought of me. Of course I signed right up… Continue reading Talking about representation!
Reaching the end of NaNoWriMo 2021
(insert fanfare here) I have met my NaNoWriMo 2021 goals! The only badge I didn't get was the one for hitting "Daily Par" every day. Mostly due to the fact that I recently discovered I set the wrong end date, so some days were a little under. But this is better than I've ever done… Continue reading Reaching the end of NaNoWriMo 2021
Forming Blocks
Yesterday when I was sitting down to do my daily NaNoWriMo work, I noticed that I really need to pay some attention to the sections I've been creating and how jumbled they are. It's hard to figure out what to write when it's not easy for me to tell what I've already written. Like, I… Continue reading Forming Blocks
NaNoWriMo Week 3
Another week, another chunk done, another realization. I admit, I was starting to lose steam a little this week. I was wondering if letting those shiny badges drive me was a good idea. I could not add a word for a day and still be on target for the 10,000 words by the 30th. Then… Continue reading NaNoWriMo Week 3
NaNoWriMo Week 2
It's the end of week 2 of #NaNoWriMo and I'm more than halfway to my goal for the month! Like I said earlier this week, I'm trying to do more than just a brain dump when I do my daily writing. But I realized today I was worrying too much about how what I'm writing will all tie together.
More than a brain dump
As I finished up my daily NaNoWriMo writings for the day, I realized something: I need to set more time aside for these writing sessions. These past seven days of writing have been mostly brain dumps on a topic, with some revising of existing work. I think I'm ready to do more than that now.… Continue reading More than a brain dump
